Governor Raimondo Signs Pride Month Declaration After Bishop's Tweet

(Providence, RI)--Governor Gina Raimondo signed a proclamation yesterday declaring this month to be Pride Month. This came two days after Providence Bishop Thomas Tobin told Catholics not to support Pride Month activities, saying they are contrary to Catholic faith and morals and are especially harmful for children. The Pride Month declaration was scheduled before Tobin's tweet; Raimondo said she decided to make the Monday ceremony at the State House more public in response.Tobin issued a follow-up statement on Sunday saying he regretted that his initial words turned out to be so controversial.
