The Most Peaceful Country In The World Is…?

While it may seem like several parts of the world are in turmoil, the truth is things really aren’t that bad everywhere.

The 13th annual Global Peace Index was just released, and shockingly, for the first time in five years the average level of global peacefulness has actually increased. But things still aren’t great, with the average level of peacefulness showing a 4% decrease from 2008. 

So, where are things the most peaceful? Well, apparently Iceland, which has held the honor of the most peaceful nation since 2008. As for where the U.S. falls, it’s at 128 out of 163 nations, a drop of four spots from last year. The U.S. is actually one of 76 countries which were less peaceful this year than last, although overall 86 countries saw an improvement.

Top Ten Most Peaceful Countries

  1. Iceland
  2. New Zealand
  3. Portugal
  4. Austria
  5. Denmark
  6. Canada
  7. Singapore
  8. Slovenia
  9. Japan
  10. Czech Republic

As for the least peaceful nation, the report says it’s Afghanistan, replacing Syria which held the spot last year.
