DCYF Director Criticized By House Oversight Committee

(Providence, RI)--Department of Children, Youth and Families Director Trista Piccola is facing calls to resign after a report was released this week highlighting failures from the department in the case of a child's death. The Office of the Child Advocate maintained that actions or inactions from DCYF contributed to the death of nine-year-old Zahnae Rothgeb and found that staff ignored concerns about Michele Rothgeb's inability to care for her or more than a half-dozen other kids in her Warwick home.Leading the call for Piccola's resignation was Deputy House Speaker Charlene Lima at a House Oversight Committee meeting on Thursday.Lima also said the whole DCYF is a disaster and should be wiped out.
