East Side Providence Residents Annoyed Over Newly-Proposed Tax Structure

(Providence, RI)--Residents of the East Side of Providence sounded off last night about a new tax proposal.Over a hundred residents went to Central Congregational Church to express frustration over a graduated homestead exemption tax structure proposed by City Councilman John Igliozzi, who serves as the chairman of the Finance Committee.Igliozzi said it would help low-income earners in areas where tax bills are increasing due to a recent property revaluation, but East Siders said last night that their own revalued property along with the graduated homestead exemption would be a financial double-whammy.Plus, they pointed out that this proposal is being made just weeks before tax bills normally get sent out.
