Police Make Arrest In Social Media Threat Against Gay Club

The person accused of making threats against a gay nightclub in Fresno is behind bars. The Fresno Police Department announced it was able to identify the user of the fake Facebook account as 28-year-old Jose Lechuga. Police were contacted on June 9th after several posts made about the Fab Fresno nightclub, which read, it "should change its name to Pulse nightclub since you will share the same fate."

The threat was made just days before the three-year anniversary of the deadly Pulse shooting in Orlando, Florida where 49 people were gunned down. The account also had its profile photo as that of the Pulse nightclub shooter Omar Mateen.

During the June 13th arrest, police say Lechuga admitted to making the threats in response to a viral video showing the mother of his girlfriend outside Fab where she was heard yelling profanities at the LGBT community.

  • Police obtained two shotguns, two semi-automatic handguns, and a large amount of ammunition belonging to Lechuga. So far the suspect is being charged with making terroristic threats and having a concealed firearm in a vehicle. Police say they need to investigate further before determining if hate crime charges will be pursued.
