Report On Circumstances Surrounding High School Student's Suicide Released

(Portsmouth, RI)--A report on the suicide death of a Portsmouth High School football player is being made public. The Portsmouth School Committee had hired an attorney to look into the 2018 death of 15-year-old Nathan Bruno, who had apparently been involved in a harassment campaign against the team's coach. The report claims a divide was created between Bruno and the rest of the team after coach Ryan Moniz apparently said during a team meeting that he would resign unless two other students involved in the harassment were named.Bruno's father says in the report that Moniz, the school's principal and athletic director placed undue stress upon his son, causing him to feel isolated, shamed and bullied. An attorney for Moniz, who has since been removed as coach, is blasting the report, saying it is not the result of due process.
