State Board Goes Against Proposed Burrillville Power Plant

(Burrillville, RI)--The Rhode Island Energy Facility Siting Board is rejecting a proposed natural gas power plant in Burrillville. The board, which is the top permitting agency for major energy projects in the state, says Chicago-based Invenergy failed to demonstrate the need for the one-thousand-megawatt Clear River Energy Center and that other energy sources like offshore wind will help to meet local market demand.Invenergy can appeal to the Rhode Island Supreme Court. The decision follows dozens of hearings that have been held since the power plant was proposed four years ago, which have drawn many residents who were opposed.
