There's A Robot Fish Powered By “Blood”

A newly created robot fish is powered by its own blood source.

Researchers at Cornell University and the University of Pennsylvania have created the fish that runs off "robot blood," a circulatory system of hydraulic liquid that acts as an energy source. They say they were inspired to create the system, which uses, stores and transfers energy to power its fins, by basic concepts of biology.

The Lionfish is also outfitted with silicon skin that allows it to bend and flex. How realistic is it? It’s hard to tell the robot from a real fish. The robot can swim for up to 36 hours.

The researchers hope their innovation can be used to power self-operating underwater robots that can collect various scientific information. The smart blood technology may be able to help power electric vehicles or other transportation in the future.
