House Not Taking Up Homestead Exemption Bill This Session

(Providence, RI)--The plan from city leaders in Providence to enact a property tax homestead exemption appears to be on pause.Just a few days before the legislative session ends, the House is declining to hold a hearing on a bill that would allow the city to move forward with the plan because of a lack of time for it to be properly vetted.Residents on the East Side of Providence, plus Mayor Jorge Elorza, opposed the homestead exemption plan, which was proposed as a way of helping low-income residents affected by property revaluation.
