Rhode Island Lawmakers In Recess For Summer

(Providence, RI) -- The 2019 regular session of the Rhode Island legislature is over, but lawmakers will be back before the year is over. Legislative leaders say a special session will be scheduled in the fall for consideration of a deal that would keep gaming giant IGT in Rhode Island through the year 2043. One of the significant bills approved on Friday before lawmakers adjourned allows the city of Pawtucket to use sales tax and other revenue to finance improvement and redevelopment in the downtown area. Critics objected to the bill over language in it that they said could lead to eminent domain issues across the state.
