Fiscal Year 2020 Providence Budget Signed

(Providence, RI)--The 2020 fiscal year budget for the city of Providence is signed after final approval on Tuesday from the City Council and Mayor Jorge Elorza.The 770-million-dollar plan is about three-million less than Elorza's original budget proposal. The mayor initially threatened a veto, but said on Tuesday that the budget balances the interests of residents fairly and continues to make critical investments in communities to move the city forward.The budget includes a flat property tax rate of 24 dollars and 56 cents per thousand dollars of valuation, plus a homestead exemption of 40 percent.
