Man Freed From Prison For Crime Lawyers Say RI Man Committed

(Worcester, MA)--A Taunton, Massachusetts man is being freed after spending 35 years behind bars for a murder his attorneys say was actually committed by a now-dead Rhode Island man.Gary Cifizzari was conditionally released from a life sentence by a judge in Worcester Superior Court on Friday.Cifizzari was convicted of killing his great-aunt in Milford, Mass, but his lawyers pointed to DNA evidence to say Michael Giroux, who died in 2014 and was an initial suspect in the case, was the one who committed the crime. They are now seeking to have the conviction overturned.
