NASA is investigating what may be the first criminal case in space. Astronaut Anne McClain has been accused of hacking into the bank account of her estranged wife while aboard the International Space Station.
Summer Worden and her parents say McClain improperly accessed their financial records as part of an effort to gain custody of the couple's son. Worden brought an identity theft complaint to the Federal Trade Commission, but she allows that she didn't notice any missing funds.
As for McClain, she denies doing anything illegal and says she's fully cooperating in the investigation. “There’s unequivocally no truth to these claims. We’ve been going through a painful, personal separation that’s now unfortunately in the media,” she offers via Twitter. “I appreciate the outpouring of support and will reserve comment until after the investigation. I have total confidence in the IG process.”
- She reportedly told investigators she was monitoring the family account by using the same password created while her and Worden were still together.
