A former reality TV show producer whose credits included 'Survivor' and 'Pimp my Ride' is back home in Southern California after serving just seven-and-a-half years of a 12-year sentence he received after killing his wife while they were on vacation in Mexico in 2010.

Bruce Beresford-Redman, 48, was released from Cereso prison in Mexico on June 20 and was living back at his home in Gardena, California, NBC Los Angeles reported. He served about seven and a half years, which included time he spent waiting in a jail in Los Angeles while he awaited extradition.

The reality TV show producer was sentenced to 12 years in prison after a jury in Mexico found him guilty of his wife's murder in 2010. It began when Beresford-Redman and his wife, Monica, along with their two children went on a vacation at the luxury Moon Palace Resort in Cancun in April 2010. At one point, Beresford-Redman reported his wife missing, whose bruised, naked body was found in a septic tank on what would have been her 42nd birthday. An autopsy later confirmed that she had been strangled.

Witnesses reported hearing screams coming from the couple's hotel room, where investigators discovered blood, court records show. Investigators also uncovered evidence that Beresford-Redman had recently engaged in an extramarital affair.

"Thanks, I really have no comment. I appreciate your interest," Beresford-Redman told reporters. "Thank you. There’s no comment."

Under Mexican law, prisoners are eligible for release once they serve at least 60 percent of their sentence. Beresford-Redman was released with credit for good behavior and paid $2,000 in restitution, La Palabra, a newspaper in Quintana Roo where the murder occurred, reported.

Beresford-Redman has maintained his innocence through the trial and now. He and Mónica had two children, who were 5 and 7 at the time of the murders, have been living with Beresford-Redman's parents at the home in Gardena. His father died last year, NBC reported.

Mónica was also well-known in the Los Angeles area for owning a now-closed restaurant named Zambumba.
