IRS Whistleblower Adds To The Impeachment Frenzy

An IRS employee is raising questions about interference in an annual audit of the President or Vice President's tax returns.

“The Washington Post” reports that the employee filed a whistleblower complaint with the House Ways and Means Committee, the Senate Finance Committee and the Treasury Department inspector general. The IRS worker claimed he was told of at least one Treasury Department political appointee who tried to interfere with tax returns.

The Trump administration is dismissing the complaint because it’s based on hearsay and not first hand knowledge, but Democrats are latching on. Dems are debating on whether to make the filing public.

The interesting thing is, the document has been floating around for months. Key parts of it are under wraps because of laws to protect taxpayer privacy. “The Post” says it’s been unable to verify the allegation in the whistleblower’s complaint of improper communication between Treasury and IRS on the tax audit program.
