“Queer Eye” Star First Non-Female On Cosmo Cover Since 1984

“Queer Eye’s” resident grooming expert Jonathan Van Ness graces the cover of Cosmopolitan UK’s January issue. Being a Cosmo cover girl is already a big moment, but what makes it even more special is the fact that he’s the first non-female Cosmo cover star in 35 years.

That’s right, the last time someone who wasn’t a woman graced the cover of the magazine is back in 1984 when Boy George appeared on the glossy front page. Needless to say, the Netflix star is psyched about the news, sharing a photo of the cover on his Instagram page to flex the accomplishment.

As for his cover story, Van Ness opens up about how revealing his HIV-positive status turned him into an activist. “This is only the beginning, I’m quickly realizing that there is still so much misunderstanding [and] sensationalizing of living with HIV,” he says. “My work has only really just begun.”
