State Police Trooper Seen Punching Arrestee In Video Is Fired

(North Scituate, RI)--The Rhode Island State Police trooper who was caught on video punching a man who was in custody has been fired. In a letter published by the website GoLocalProv from RISP Superintendent Colonel James Manni, he tells James Donnelly-Taylor that the firing is for non-disciplinary reasons and that he denied a request for disability pension because the injury was traceable to the attack on Lionel Monsanto. This happened at the Lincoln state police barracks in 2014.This past summer, Manni said he would have fired Donnelly-Taylor then if he had been the state police superintendent at the time.
