Vladimir Putin Defends Trump After Impeachment Vote

Russian President Vladimir Putin is defending President Trump after he became only the third commander in chief to be impeached. “It’s simply a continuation of internal political struggle,” Putin told reporters in Moscow in translated remarks. “The Party that lost the (2016) election, the Democratic Party, is trying to achieve results by other means.”

During his annual news conference, Putin said he doubts the U.S. Senate will remove Trump from office based on what he thinks are absolutely made-up reasons. Putin also responded to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee recommending strict sanctions on Russia by saying his country would mirror the bill – calling it “unfriendly.”
