ACLU Gets Involved In Pawtucket Student Arrest Case

(Pawtucket, RI)--The ACLU of Rhode Island says it is taking legal action over an unlawful arrest of a school student in Pawtucket. The civil rights group says a legal claim for damages was sent on Monday to the city of Pawtucket for a school resource officer's arrest of 13-year-old Tre'sur Johnson, a student at Goff Middle School who was reportedly involved in an altercation. The ACLU says despite being an honors student and with no prior disciplinary issues, the officer arrested and handcuffed Johnson for disorderly conduct.Pawtucket Mayor Don Grebien released a response, according to the website GoLocalProv, which read in part that the incident on June 3rd last year was a serious and violent one and that the actions of the two juveniles who were involved warranted the decision to arrest and charge both with that offense.
