FRIDAY CORONAVIRUS UPDATE: 288 New Cases in RI

The state of Rhode Island has had another record day regarding new coronavirus cases, with 288 new cases, bringing the total to 2,015 cases. There have been six new deaths since Thursday afternoon raising the total number of deaths to 49. Four of the six deaths were people in their 90's, and one over the age of 100. Five out of six deaths are connected to nursing homes. 387 total cases have occurred in nursing homes.

Raimondo announced that RIPTA is now limiting capacity on buses to 15 people. The state Department of Labor and Training is "overwhelmed" with claims, but the governor says it is making headway on processing claims and asked for patience. On Friday the governor reiterated that unemployment insurance is available to anyone who has been laid off or had work hours reduced.
