How Do Americans Feel About COVID-19 Protests?

A new poll from Yahoo! News and YouGov found that a majority of Americans, 60 percent, are opposed to the protests that have been taking place in some state capitals against the stay-at-home orders and other restrictions that have been put in place by governors to help stop the spread of the coronavirus. Less than one-quarter, 22 percent, said they support the protests, and 18 percent said they were "not sure" how they felt about them. This held true among Republicans, with a plurality of 47 percent saying they oppose the protests and 36 percent supporting them. Asked about reopening, 71 percent overall said it should happen when health authorities can test and trace new coronavirus cases, while 29 percent said it should happen as soon as possible to reduce economic damage. Yesterday, a Facebook friend posted the simple question WHO IS AFRAID ABOUT THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND OPENING BACK UP? The answers to the question became a cauldron of political blame, with few people actually answering the question. a sign of the times in which we live and a good reason to take a brief break from social media.
