Displeasure Expressed About No Pledge Of Allegiance In Virtual Meeting

(Woonsocket, RI)--The Pledge of Allegiance is a staple of opening municipal meetings in the United States; when it went missing in a recent virtual meeting for the Woonsocket City Council, someone took issue.According to a report from the Valley Breeze, former city councilor Richard Fagnant [[ fag-nint ]] emailed the council earlier this month asking why the Pledge was temporarily suspended, asking if the omission meant the city had "a communist council".A response from Councilor James Cournoyer indicated the Pledge was suspended because reciting it on Zoom made a mockery of it, noting the video-conferencing platform doesn't work well when multiple people speak at once. The Pledge was reportedly not recited during last week's meeting.
