Conservatives Give Shepard Fairey's Rhode Island Poster Thumbs-Down

(Providence, RI)--The latest work from Shepard Fairey, the artist who became widely known for his "Hope" poster featuring Barack Obama, is being compared by critics to Communist propaganda.According to a report from The Providence Journal, Governor Gina Raimondo reached out to Fairey, a Rhode Island School of Design graduate, to develop the image, titled the "RI Angel of Hope and Strength", which she unveiled at a coronavirus briefing last weekend to support the launch of RI-Arts-dot-org, a resource website for local artists. The conservative-leaning RI Center for Freedom and Prosperity earlier this week called the artwork "totalitarian" and said the image looked like the Statue of Liberty wearing Communist garb.
