Arrests Made After Columbus Statue Vandalism In Providence

(Providence, RI)--Three people have been arrested for the latest vandalism to hit the Christopher Columbus statue in the city of Providence.The Providence Police Department says detectives witnessed two people hurl paint at the statue near the intersection of Elmwood and Reservoir avenues overnight Saturday.Those two were arrested, plus the driver of a vehicle that was believed to have been carrying them.One of the vandalism suspects is Derrick Garforth, a teacher at Jenks Middle School in Pawtucket.School superintendent Cheryl McWilliams told The Providence Journal, Garforth has been placed on leave pending an investigation.
