Fraudulent Unemployment Claims Plague RI

(Cranston, RI) -- The state Department of Labor and Training says nearly 43-percent of unemployment benefit claims filed in Rhode Island in the last year are suspected of being fraudulent. Channel 12 reports about nine-hundred-thousand claims have been filed since last March, over 382-thousand are suspected of being bogus and over 56-thousand have been confirmed as fraud. Anyone who receives a letter asking them to confirm jobless benefits they didn't apply for is advised to fill-out a State Police report and notify D-L-T that the claim is fraudulent.
