East Providence Want Drivers To Slow Down Through School Zones.

School-zone speed-watching cameras are online in East Providence. Police will begin issuing fifty-dollar tickets for any driver caught speeding in the five areas where the cameras are located. All but one of them are on Pawtucket Avenue.

Police Chief Christopher Francesconi says there are a lot of questions that have come up because of it.

“Will someone receive a ticket for going a couple miles per hour over the school zone speed limit?”NO

“School ends at 2pm at my school. Why do the cameras stay on until 4pm?” Many schools have after school programs, activities, sports, detention etc. RI State law does allow for the cameras to be active until 6pm.

“How much are the speeding fines?” All fines are $50 and do not effect one’s insurance.

The cameras are active weekdays from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
