8 Inches Of Snow Close Most Schools In State

Snow began falling in the Providence area at around 3:00 this morning. All of mainland Rhode Island is under a Winter Storm Warning from the National Weather Service until 4 p.m. today. The forecast from the weather service is five-to-eight inches for most places except for Block Island.

Most Schools are closed in the state and with few exceptions they are converting to a virtual learning day. That means that they will get credit for the day and avoid a make-up day in the summer.

Schools are closed and converting to virtual learning today in:

Barrington

Coventry

Cranston

Cumberland

East Greenwich

Jamestown

Johnston

North Kingstown

North Providence

Narragansett

Newport

Providence

Smithfield

Tiverton

Warwick

West Warwick

Woonsocket

However- there are two school districts that are closed and WILL NOT go to a virtual learning set up.

Pawtucket and Cumberland Schools will be closed and will not opt for a virtual component.
