Providence Mayor: Stay Home And Be Safe

Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza says that the city is doing the best it can in dealing with the blizzard.

The snow continues to fall in the state, including in Providence.

The Mayor, appearing on MSNBC says simply that people should stay home- even after the travel ban ends late tonight.

Elorza says so far, as on 1pm there have been no power outages, but with the high winds, as the snow accumulates, power lines could be taken down.

The Mayor also is urging people to be patient. He says even when the storm ends, the cleanup is going to take some time.

The parking ban in Providence is in effect until further notice.

National Grid is reporting limited power outages. Those are in parts of Cranston.

Smithfield has also seen scattered outages.

The utility company is not predicting when power might be restored.
