No More Warnings In East Providence

The warning period for red light violations in East Providence is over. As of today, drivers who run red lights at two intersections, Broadway at Grosvenor Avenue and North Broadway at Roger Williams Avenue will be ticketed. That's in addition to fifty-dollar fines for speeding in five school safety zone in the city.

“Each year, too many families are impacted by crashes caused by people speeding or drivers failing to stop at red lights. Speed was a likely factor in more than 45 percent of all traffic fatalities in Rhode Island, according to the most recent data available. Sadly, the victims of the traffic crashes are often occupants of other vehicles or pedestrians who were in the area. Pedestrian accidents have also increased and unfortunately, 16 pedestrians died in Rhode Island last year.” says Police Chief William Nebus.

That may not be the only local community using the red light cameras. Warwick is also considering a similar program.
