Schools Targeted In Effort To Increase Covid Vaccinations

The Rhode Island Department of Health is reporting 169 new coronavirus cases and no additional deaths today. One-hundred-42 people are hospitalized with 16 in intensive care. The latest positive test rate was down to two-point-one percent.

Meantime, Rhode Island officials are ramping up efforts to get more adults boosted and more K-through-12 students vaccinated. The state Department of Health says while the vast majority of Rhode Islanders are vaccinated, only about 38-percent have received a booster shot.

The vaccination rate in some school districts is very low and clinics will be held where rates are under twenty-percent.

The Governor says schools in Central Falls, Providence, Woonsocket and Pawtucket will be among the first to become part of the new strategy.
