As Covid Numbers Drop National Guard Help Leaving State

Rhode Island is shifting its coronavirus strategy from pandemic to endemic management.

Governor Dan McKee says the change is based on updated guidance from the CDC and a decline in the number of cases.

According to a new tiered system for measuring community-level transmission rates, the state is now considered to be in the low-risk category.

Meantime, after one extension was granted, now the military medical team deployed to Rhode Island Hospital at the peak of the Omicron surge will end its tour of duty on Sunday.

Members of the 14th Field Hospital military unit were sent to ease staffing shortages at the hospital as patient numbers spiked.

Tonight, Hasbro Children's Hospital and Rhode Island Hospital plan a Good Night Lights celebration to honor the military personnel.
