Democratic candidate for governor Helena Foulkes is calling for most Rhode Islanders to get a 500-dollar tax cut to help ease the burden of rising prices.
"Our state is seeing an unprecedented surplus, but Rhode Islanders’ budgets are tighter than ever. I'm calling on Governor McKee to use a portion of the state's budget surplus to give a one-time $500 tax cut to anyone earning less than $100,000," she said while making the announcement on social media.
The former CVS executive says that about 400 thousand residents of the state will be helped by the tax cut.
So far neither the legislature nor the Governor have commented on the proposal.
According to his schedule this morning, Governor McKee has no public events scheduled.
