Energy Prices Drive Debate Nationally, Locally

Governor McKee hasn’t said he would absolutely veto a gas tax holiday for the state in the midst of high energy costs, but he appears to be less than thrilled about it.

The Governor says states, like Connecticut that have the tax suspension are not seeing the dramatic decreases as expected.

But the Governor says he won’t rule it out.

There are several proposals for gas tax relief being considered in the legislature. And, there is one national proposal that is gaining legs. It is the proposal of Connecticut Congressman John Larson who is proposing a one to two hundred dollar energy rebate on a monthly basis.

"The price of gas is driving up costs across the board. My energy rebate proposal will deliver much-needed relief by putting money back in the hands of Americans feeling this squeeze," Congressman Larson said.

Gas Prices according to the latest Triple A report remain high.

The National Average as of Friday morning is $4.15 a gallon. In Rhode Island it is $4.08 a gallon.
