Four State Resident Identified As Victims In Fatal Crash

Police have released the names of four young Rhode Islanders who died in a car crash in Connecticut on Monday evening.

The car was headed to Quaddick Lake in the border town of Thompson when it crashed while trying to pass another vehicle.

The driver was identified as 18-year-old Johan Santana of Providence.

His passengers, who were also from the capital city, were ID'd as 21-year-olds Jaslin and Erika Perez and Lixandra Terrero Almonte.

Connecticut State Police say seat belts were not worn. A fifth person who was injured in the wreck is listed in stable hospital condition.

Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza said at a memorial ceremony in Roger Williams Park on Tuesday that he knows the families of the victims, and he called the loss heartbreaking.

The four fatalities in the Thompson accident were part of the 12 total fatalities over the Memorial Day Weekend.
