Inflation Kicks Soccer Stadium Cost Higher In Pawtucket

Pawtucket Mayor Don Grebien is pleading with the state to provide additional funding for a professional soccer stadium.

The developer of the Tidewater Landing project says the cost has gone up because of inflation and supply-chain issues.

The public-private partnership is requesting an additional thirty-million dollars in public funding to match the developer's new pledge.

The Pawtucket Red Sox announced their move to Worcester in 2018 after failing to reach a new stadium deal with the RI General Assembly.

Legislation was passed one year later creating a tax increment financing district in Pawtucket to attract projects like the soccer field.

The Commerce Corporation is now being asked to increase the TIF district amount.

Neither the Governor nor state lawmakers have reacted to the additional call for help.
