Rhode Island Governor Dan McKee Responds To Supreme Court Roe v Wade Ruling

The United States Supreme Court officially overturned the landmark Roe v. Wade ruling to guarantee a constitutional right to an abortion following a 6-3 vote on Friday (June 24).

The decision leaves the right to an abortion in the hands of the State.

So how does this impact Rhode Islanders?

Rhode Island Governor Dan McKee issued a statement on Twitter following the decision.

"Roe v. Wade has been the law of the land for almost 50 years," Governor McKee writes. "Today’s Supreme Court ruling is a travesty, full stop."

Governor McKee continues:

"Here in Rhode Island, we will always support a woman’s right to choose. Despite today’s ruling, Rhode Islanders still have the right to access abortion health care services in our state thanks to the General Assembly codifying these protections into law."

Governor McKee confirms that Rhode Island residents will continue to have access to abortion health care services.

The governor also retweeted a post from Women & Infants Hospital of Rhode Island, which provides residents with more information regarding available services.
