State Wants New Law Followed At "Flat River" Site

The state of Rhode Island is enforcing a new law which regulates water levels in dams.

Governor Dan McKee's administration and the Department of Environmental Management are ordering Soscia Holdings LLC to slow down its water release at Flat River Reservoir, also known as Johnson's Pond in Coventry.

Soscia Holdings has filed a federal lawsuit over the bill that was passed by the Rhode Island General Assembly earlier this year.

Nearby residents and recreational users of the pond have complained about the negative impacts of drastic water level reductions for the last several years.
