A 25-year veteran of the Providence Police Department is now charged with assault.
Captain Stephen Gencarella was seen on video slamming a man's face into the pavement during an arrest last month.
He's been notified that Chief Hugh Clements wants to fire him and he's requested a hearing under the Law Enforcement Officers' Bill of Rights.
Gencarella is currently on paid injured-on-duty status.
The Captain says he will fight his dismissal.
