Entertainment, Liquor License Suspended At Ballard's Beach Resort

A two-week suspension is being handed down for the liquor and entertainment licenses of Ballard's Beach Resort on Block Island.

The New Shoreham Town Council made the move at a hearing on Monday, finding that Ballard's presented a danger to public health and safety.

A fight broke out during a reggae festival at the bar which drew thousands of patrons.

Later in the evening, police dramatically jumped onto the moving Block Island Ferry to respond to another brawl.

There were no police previously on the ferry because it was added late to the schedule to help with the large crowd going back to the mainland.

Eight people were arrested.

The Island town council determined that Ballard's had inadequate security at the music festival, which has apparently been canceled going forward.
