2nd District Congressional Race- Providence Mayor Set

It's on to the general election in the Rhode Island 2nd Congressional District race.

Democrat Seth Magaziner won the primary on Tuesday.

The state treasurer will face former Cranston mayor Allan Fung on the Republican side.

There were no other GOP candidates.

Magaziner and Fung are running to fill the seat left vacant by the retirement of longtime incumbent Jim Langevin.

Meantime, the Democratic nomination for mayor of Providence is going to former Governor Raimondo official Brett Smiley.

He knocked off Gonzalo Cuervo, a former Providence mayoral aide, and City Councilor Nirva LaFortune.

No other parties have put forth any candidates for the general election.

Incumbent Mayor Jorge Elorza is exiting the office because of a term limit.
