Governor Says School Transport Issue In Providence Is Not Acceptable

Governor Dan McKee wrote a letter to the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority about the recent spate of bus service disruptions that have impacted students in the Providence Public School District.

McKee's letter to the quasi-public agency called the situation "unacceptable".

A spokesperson for the governor says his office has been engaged in discussions to explore the transfer of services to a private provider.

McKee said every morning, parents are anxiously waiting to see if their child will have a bus to catch.

RIPTA says it is experiencing an unprecedented labor shortage.

So far they are down by approximately 30 drivers.

Drivers met yesterday in Providence to try to come up with a solution but none was announced.
