Driver Shortage Forces Planned Service Reductions Across State

A planned service reduction is taking place on Rhode Island Public Transit Authority bus routes.

RIPTA late last month announced cuts that took effect on Saturday.

RIPTA says no routes are being fully eliminated, and that the cuts are being temporarily made due to a historic workforce shortage.

Governor Dan McKee is criticizing RIPTA for bus service disruptions which have impacted students in the Providence Public School District who use them to get to class.

The shortage of drivers is not only a Rhode Island issue - it is a problem across the nation.
