Smiley: "We Can Be A World Class City"

A new mayor of Providence has officially been decided.

Democrat Brett Smiley, who won the September primary, was unopposed in yesterday's election.

Incumbent Mayor Jorge Elorza could not run again because of term limits.

Smiley, a former Elorza aid and chief of staff for Governor Raimondo, says Providence can be a world-class city and he's excited to get to work.

That was not the only race for Mayor in the area.

East Providence Mayor Bob DaSilva was re-elected.

Former Central Falls mayor James Diossa won the general treasurer's race.

In Johnston, Joseph Polisena Jr. was elected mayor to take over for his father.
