New York Man Found Guilty Of Pawtucket Murder

A man has been found guilty for a murder in Pawtucket.

Jack Doherty of Albany, New York was convicted for the fatal shooting of Cheryl Smith on New Year's Day 2020.

The Rhode Island Attorney General's Office says Doherty carried out the act under the instruction of his fiance, Shaylyn Moran.

The state says the two conspired to shoot anyone who answered the door where Moran's ex-boyfriend lived on Baxter Street.

Prosecutors successfully rebutted the defendant’s affirmative defense that he should be found not guilty by reason of insanity.

That was also Smith's residence.

Doherty is being held at the ACI pending a future sentencing.
