Gov McKee Orders Occupants Of Tent City At Capitol- Out By Friday

The Rhode Island Governor Dan McKee says the people living in a homeless encampment outside of the State House must leave by 9AM Friday.

Eviction notices were handed out to people living in tents at the RI Capitol building on Wednesday.

The governor's office says it's coordinating an effort to find an alternate living situation for the displaced.

Rhode Island's homeless situation has come into sharp focus as winter temperatures have arrived, with a protest held during a State House holiday tree-lighting ceremony and McKee announcing a new 24-hour warming station at the Cranston Street Armory in Providence last week.

Employees at the State House have been complaining about the sudden Tent City that popped up.
