Some Schools In Region Consider Masking Post Holiday

A new variant of the coronavirus is now dominant in the country's Northeast region.

XBB is a form of the omicron variant.

Medical experts say it's more contagious than other versions of the virus.

However, they also say XBB is no more severe than the others.

As a new variant comes in, school districts are trying to figure out whether there will be temporary mask mandates in schools to try to tamp down any potential outbreaks.

Most school districts have opted not to.

Most officials say that it has been difficult to try to find potential spiking of cases since so many people are self-testing and those results are rarely reported to the state.
