Friars Wait For NCAA Bid After Big East Tournament Loss

UConn is moving onto the semifinal of the Big East tournament after taking down Providence 73-66.

Jordan Hawkins led all scorers with 19 points for the Huskies. Tristen Newton chipped in with 16 points and seven assists off the bench, and Andre Jackson Jr. came within a point of a double-double after grabbing a game-high 11 rebounds. The Friars were down by as many as 24 points with 16 minutes remaining. They were down by 16 at the 12 minute mark and actually got the game down to 5 points with about 4 minutes remaining.

"I was very proud of the way we responded," Head Coach Ed Cooley said. "Our biggest adjustment was our attitude. I am proud of the attitude, energy and resilience that our players showed."

Bryce Hopkins led the Friars with 16 points and seven rebounds.

Conn faces Marquette tonight.

As for the Friars with a record of 21 and 11, they will await the the seedings in the NCAA tournament and where they will be playing when they come out Sunday night.
