RI Joins National Suit Addressing Car Theft

Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha is joining other states in calling for Kia and Hyundai manufacturers to address car thefts.

Rhode Island cities including Providence and Cranston have recently reported car theft spikes involving those companies.

Neronha is joining other attorneys general who are urging Kia and Hyundai to install anti-theft immobilizers which are standard in most other vehicles.

The company meantime says that it has issued free software protection upgrades in an effort to correct the issues.

The company says all cars manufactured after 2021 have the immobilizers in them.
