Columbus Statue To Get A New Home

The controversial Christopher Columbus statue which formerly stood at Columbus Square in Providence is returning to public view.

The statue has been in storage for nearly three years, but it will become part of Memorial Park in Johnston in October.

Mayor Joseph Polisena Jr. announced on Thursday that former Providence mayor Joe Paolino, who bought the statue from the city, has gifted it to Johnston.

The statue is set to be unveiled on Columbus Day.
