Governor Dan McKee has issued a statement regarding the possible closures of Roger Williams Medical Center and Our Lady of Fatima Hospital.
The governor says the priority is to ensure that the facilities remain open and operating because they are essential to their communities and the state's health care system.
McKee says his administration opposes any action that would result in the closure of the hospitals.
He says officials have been working closely with the Executive Office of Health and Human Services on contingency plans to protect patient care.
He says that includes engaging with another potential operator that is conducting due diligence and reinforcing the commitment to keeping the hospitals open and serving their communities.
